RÉSUMÉ

The entropy generation in a saturated porous cavity for laminar natural convection is investigated by using the non-Darcy flow model and a thermal nonequilibrium model of the heat transfer between the fluid and the solid phases. The thermal nonequilibrium model allows the fluid and solid phases not to be in local thermal equilibrium. Two-dimensional steady convection in a cavity bounded by isothermal walls at constant temperatures has been studied numerically, and it is assumed that the heat generation is only in the solid phase. The nonequilibrium assumption is very important and indispensable for many engineering applications involving high-speed flows or large temperature differences between the fluid and solid phases as a safety parameter. The utilization of the second law of thermodynamics for non-Darcy and thermal nonequilibrium porous media is focused on the entropy generation distribution for the solid-fluid scaled heat transfer coefficient, H, and the porosity-scaled conductivity ratio, γ.
