Analysis of Falling Film Evaporation on Grooved Surfaces

RÉSUMÉ

An increase in the evaporation rate from falling liquid films on structured walls may be attributed to the evaporation intensification near the contact line ("micro region") and to the modified patterns of the wavy film motion. In the present work, a model for steady fluid flow and heat transfer during evaporation of a film falling down a grooved wall is developed, which shows that the phenomena in the micro region lead to an increase of the overall heat transfer rate at the constant fluid flow rate. A stability analysis is performed showing that longitudinal grooves have a stabilizing effect on the falling film flow.
