INVESTIGATION OF ENTRAINMENT OF AN IMPINGING DIFFUSION FLAME
RÉSUMÉ
In order to clearly observe impingement and entrainment of the impinging diffusion flame, a number of tests are executed under various sets of momentum ratios in this study. Usually, the methane-to-methane impinging diffusion flame shows a long and unsaturated flame, with the color of the flame indicating low combustion efficiency. The peak temperature distributions are also higher and thicker than those of a pure methane impinging flame. The results show that the momentum ratio contributes to the mass and heat transfer in the impinging flame. The entrainment effect of the air jet is declined as the momentum of methane fuel increases. And, the reaction zone and heat transfer will tend to the air side. The performance of the impinging diffusion flame at the air-to-methane momentum ratio 1:1.5 is greater than that at the equal momentum ratio.
