RÉSUMÉ
Excimer laser ablation of a polyethylene sample is visualized by using a high-speed camera with 40500 frames per second. Both ArF and KrF lasers are used, and the laser fluence dependence is studied. The images show that the ablation dynamics strongly depend on laser fluence. The plume can be seen at low fluencies above the ablation threshold, flame appears at higher fluence, and the flames appear on the sample surface at the highest fluence level. Differences in laser wavelengths influence the fluence range of the ablation dynamics because of the absorption coefficient. The results help theoretical modeling of the excimer laser ablation.
