RÉSUMÉ

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are suggested as a solution to reduce fossil fuel consumption. This study employs the Pareto chart and chi-square test to explore perceived barriers to the widespread adoption of BEVs in Jordan as a representative to MENA region countries. Based on a sample of 1481 respondents collected by an online survey, it finds that a group of obstacles plays a significant role in the unwillingness of Jordanian to adopt BEVs. Distance range per one charge ranked at the top of performance barriers of BEVs adoption, where replacement cost of battery and spare parts ranked at the top of the financial obstacles of BEVs adoption. On the other hand, waiting and charging time in public stations ranked at the top of infrastructure barriers. However, distance range per one charge was the most significant barrier over all examined obstacles. In terms of respondent personal characteristics, all characteristics have a significant effect except for the family size. However, gender has the most significant impact on Jordanian perception of BEV adoption.
