Liquid and vapor envelopes of sprays from a multi-hole gasoline fuel injector operating under engine-like conditions were systematically investigated. For the conditions evaluated, the maximum liquid penetration length was found to be inversely proportional to injection pressure. Penetration lengths derived from the elastic scattering envelops and schlieren envelopes were found to be quite similar up until the occurrence of the peak liquid penetration, implying that little vapor exists ahead of the penetrating liquid. %8 2013-01-11
