The effect of electromagnetic fields in different ranges of wavelengths is considered. Excitation of the internal degrees of freedom of molecules (in the case of laser radiation) and selective heating of condensed phase (in the case of microwave radiation) are analyzed. It is shown that in the microwave radiation field a heterogeneous chemical reaction can be characterized by greater uniformity over the volume of the porous catalyst particle. The possible influence of microwave radiation on combustion and explosion of porous particles is discussed.
