T1 Role of Dreissena and Abramis Brama Fry in Changes in the Dynamics and Relationships in Plankton Communities of Experimental Ecosystems JF Hydrobiological Journal JO HYD YR 2008 FD 2008-11-19 VO 44 IS 6 SP 13 OP 21 AB Changes in the dynamics of communities of phyto-, bacterio-, and zooplankton in the presence of Dreissena and Abramis brama fry were studied under model conditions. It has been found that in the presence of Dreissena phytoplankton numbers and bacterioplankton biomass decreased. The size of algae filtered by Dreissena was 40 μm, whereas the volume of bacteria was about 0.2 μm3 at their numbers of 4−5 million cells/ml. In the community of zooplankton, the presence of mollusks was responsible for the decrease in the numbers of filter-feeding Cladocera, including Daphnia longispina. In the experiments with Abramis brama fry, the numbers of algae increased, whereas the contribution of Cladocera to the total numbers of zooplankton decreased. The biomass and production of bacteria remained almost unchanged and depended on the development of zoo- and phytoplankton.
