RÉSUMÉ

Considering multi-physics simulations in an advanced turbo-machinery design, for instance ice accretion, foreign object damage, sand erosion, cavitation erosion, corosion and so on, the effect of the surface roughness on the turbulent flow field is essential. In addition, the roughness is not always uniformly distributed, but often isolated or local. Therefore, in such multi-physics simulations, it is needed to develop and employ a more universal turbulence model to predict the flow fields with various types of surface roughness. In the present study, after tuning the model coefficients of our previously-developed surface roughness model, the virtual-force-based turbulence model is applied to the zero-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers over the rough surfaces and the NACA4412 airfoil with the leading edge roughness at the different attack angles. Comparing the numerical results with the experimental data, it is verified that the present model can reasonably predict the turbulent flows over a wide variety of rough surfaces.
