RÉSUMÉ

The suitability of fire-field modelling for solid fuel-sourced fires is discussed in this paper, with comparison between Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations and compartment fire tests presented. The comparison highlights the importance of considering heat and mass transfer processes for solid combustion in wooden cribs. A sub-model for wooden cribs in fire-field simulations is proposed in this paper for implementation within the model, based on turbulent rough-walled pipe flow. More complex fuel loads are also investigated, leading to the suitability of modelling assumptions for closed car-park fires being assessed. Although the software was successfully compared with other independent model simulations, improvements to car fire modelling assumptions are suggested.
