Generation of anisotropic divergence free synthetic turbulence at inflow boundaries for LES and DNS using the Turbulent Spot Method

Résumé

This paper deals with the problem of specifying proper inlet boundary conditions for Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) or Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS). One possible approach is the synthesis of artifical turbulent fluctuations by the Turbulent Spot Method or Synthetic Eddy Method (SEM). Almost all current formulations of the SEM and related methods suffer from the violation of the continuity constraint.
In the current paper, we present an improvement to retain the continuity-constraint even for strongly anisotropic turbulent fluctuations.
