RÉSUMÉ

The flow of small bubbles across a sudden expansion followed by a contraction is studied. The pipe internal diameters are 19 and 44 mm, and the total height 10.5 m. The paper identifies the breakup and coalesce mechanisms in both singularities and discusses how existing models well predict the phenomena. The continuous and dispersed phases are characterized using Particle Image Velocimetry and Shadow Sizing Techniques. Information related to bubble size distributions and turbulent dissipation rates are presented. A comparison between the experimental data and the bubble size distribution predicted from the Population Balance Equation (PBE) is discussed in this work.
