RÉSUMÉ

Thermal behavior of building components including Phase Change Materials (PCM) is most often appreciated by the use of simulation tools. The most common model is a FOURIER equation whose heat capacity has been replaced by an equivalent heat capacity which is supposed to take into account the energy absorbed or released by the phase change of PCM. That equation of energy conservation is discussed due to a joint analysis of energy and mass of PCM conservation. It is shown that the equivalent heat capacity concept cannot be admitted if the liquid phase fraction in PCM does not depend solely on temperature. In this paper some experimental results (DSC measurements) are introduced which show that this mass fraction can depend on the temperature change rate. In such a situation, the FOURIER equation fails in representing the PCM behavior when it is submitted to variable climatic conditions.
