RÉSUMÉ

Heat pipes are efficient heat transfer devices which plays significant role in the spacecraft thermal control applications. Axially grooved Aluminium heat pipes are generally used in the spacecraft to transfer waste heat from the steady sources to a thermal radiator. However, developments are in progress for the use of heat pipes in transient heat transfer applications and also in heat storage devices. Heat capacity of the heat pipe plays an important role in the design of such systems.
This paper presents the theoretical estimate of the heat capacity of a heat pipe and the detailed description of experimental validation. This paper also shows that, there is a significant contribution from the enthalpy change of a working fluid to the heat capacity of the heat pipe.
