RÉSUMÉ

Turbulent flow around a square based surface mounted pyramid has been investigated and hence a comparison study has been performed using standard k-ε model and LES model. Contours and characteristic plots of pressure, velocity and vorticity have been compared using both the models. Results obtained from LES model have proved to be inarguably more accurate for turbulent flow over a single pyramid. Finally, the numerical analysis has been conducted for flow over two pyramids arranged in a tandem using LES model. Results in terms of contours and plots have been analyzed for Reynolds number (Re) 2.5*104 and 5*104. Data related to geometry, boundary conditions and other flow governing parameters has been taken from Martinuzzi and Abu Omar [1]. Finite volume method is implemented along with SIMPLE algorithm so as to handle pressure-velocity decoupling. Smagorinsky-Lilly model has been used as the Subgrid-Scale model while using LES model where as standard k-ε model is used with wall function methods for near wall treatment. Computation has been performed on a three-dimensional unstructured mesh. The validation study conducted showed an excellent agreement with experimental results. In the present study, commercial package ANSYS has been used for the entire analysis.
