Data on the distribution of meiobenthos in the Zernov Phyllophora Field are presented. Meiobenthos of loose bottom sediments of the Zernov Phyllophora Field was represented by 13 large taxa of hydrobionts. The contribution of eumeiobenthos to the total numbers of meiobenthos accounted for 98.2%. The contribution of eumeiobenthos to the total biomass of meiobenthos was 64.6%, whereas the contribution of pseudomeiobenthos accounted for 36.4%. In the Zernov Phyllophora Field, the average numbers of the stable component of meiobenthos were 762.58±288.52 thousand specimenns/m2 , whereas its average biomass accounted for 5.78±2.38 mg/m2.
The average numbers and biomass of the unstable component of meiobenthos accounted for 13.63±6.00 specimens/m2 and 3.17±1.65 mg/m2, respectively. In eumeiobenthos of the Zernov Phyllophora Field, the complex with a predominance of Foraminifera and Nematoda prevailed in terms of its average numbers.

Results of the study of the distribution of Theodoxus fluviatilis L. in the Dniester river are presented. It has been found that the operation of the hydroelectric power stations (the discharge of cold waters and the drainage of the littoral zone) essentially influences the structure of Theodoxus fluviatilis population. Relationship was established between the body mass of the mollusk and its length.

Data on the influence of hydrological and morphological characteristics of the Teterev river on the structure of phytomicroepilithon are presented. The Teterev river regulation essentially influences the studied plant community, which results in the decrease in its species diversity, numbers, and biomass, and also in changes in hydrochemical indices of the Teterev river waters.

Formation of sanitary-microbiological characteristics of the marine environment in one of water area (WA) at the Odessa coast (Ukraine) being under intense anthropogenic impact was studied. Based on the total filtration potential of a colony of mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis Lam.) on coast-protecting hydraulic facilities enclosing WA and the level of bacterial contamination of water masses, we calculated the intensity of elimination of allochthonous bacteria from the marine environment by mollusks.

It was found that accumulation of herbicides of the 2,4-D group (acid, ammonium salt, and butyl ether) is maximal in brain and liver of fry (2 months), underyearlings (5 months) and two- year-old carps. 2,4-D butyl ether showed the maximal capacity of accumulating in fish tissues.

N-oxide 2,6-dimethylpyridine (“Ivin”) have a teratogenic effect in developing eggs of silver carp, which is manifested in forming cells with abnormal large nuclei. That implied, in its turn, in disruption of development of the organism. The experimental effect was most evident at 100 mg/L “Ivin” concentration.
Quantitative Characteristics of the Ways of 137Cs Influx into the Organism of Cyprinus carpio (L.) and Ictalurus punctatus (Raf.) in the Cooling Pond of the Chernobyl NPS
70-75
10.1615/HydrobJ.v42.i5.80
The content of 137Cs in free-living Cyprinus carpio and Ictalurus punctatus occurring in the cooling pond of the Chernobyl NPS, and also in the specimens of these species kept in breeding cages without artificial food, was studied in 1986−1988. It has been found that 97% of the total content of 137Cs entered fish organism through their gastro-intestinal tract, 30% - through their integuments, and 5% - through their gills.
Ecological Hydrology of Dnieper Reservoirs
76-90
10.1615/HydrobJ.v42.i5.90
Parameters of the formed hydrological regime of Dnieper reservoir, which influence most evidently the conditions of functioning of their ecosystems and water quality, are briefly generalized. In particular, peculiarities and quantitative parameters of external water exchange, dynamics and hydrophysical properties of water masses in these artificial lakes are considered.
Effect of Various Factors on Metal Desorption from Bottom Sediments under Conditions of Experimental Simulation
91-106
10.1615/HydrobJ.v42.i5.100
The results of experimental studies on metal migration in the "bottom sediments - water" system under aerobic and anaerobic conditions and at the various concentrations of humic acids (HA) presented in natural water are discussed. It is shown that migration of metals essentially increases under conditions of deficiency of dissolved oxygen. Manganese is the most sensitive element to changes in conditions at the interface of solid and liquid phases. The output of Nu (II), Zn (II), Pb (II), and Cr (III) from the bottom sediments into contacting water is much lower than that of manganese and depends on migration ability of organic substances, to which they are bound in complexes. The presence of HA in water promotes increase in metal migration from bottom sediments owing to formation of O2 deficiency and complexation.
