The structural characteristics of phytophilous complexes of aquatic invertebrates, the intensity of their development, species diversity, and their biotic indices were investigated. Comparison of the studied indices with retrospective data, and also with material of original preliminary investigations, has shown that hydrotechnical construction adversely influences the development of cenoses, which manifests itself in the decrease of the number of their species, of their total numbers and biomass, and also in the decrease in the absolute values of biotic indices.

A total of 373 species and 101 varieties and forms of algae was found in plankton of three large lakes of the Novosibirsk region, including the Chany, Ubinskoye, and Sartlan lakes. Data on the peculiarities of the species composition of phytoplankton, and also on the quantitative indices of its development, are given in the paper. It has been found that water salinity is the main factor influencing the development of phytoplankton in the studied lakes. Its increase resulted in the decrease of the species diversity of phytoplankton, of its numbers and biomass, of the Shannon index of species diversity, and of the content of chlorophyll a. The increase in water salinity resulted in the simplification of the taxonomic structure of phytoplankton. Thus, its biological productivity also decreased.

Biocenosis Modiolus adriaticus inhabiting mainly the sandy-silt bottom sediments within the depth 10−36 m in the Kerch pre-strait of the Black Sea have been studied. Maximal values of zoobenthos number and biomass have been registered within the depth 25−30 m. Level of the dominant species aggregation depends to a great extent on the availability of the substrate appropriate for settling. As a result of anthropogenic impact biocenosis was found to be considerably destroyed.

The species composition of epiphyton algae occurring in the fouling of Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud., Typha angustifolia L., Ceratophyllum demersum L., Elodea canadensis Mixch., Nuphar lutea L., and Trapa natans L. in different water bodies of Kiev was investigated. The processes of production and decomposition involving phytoepiphyton registered in the studied water bodies were quantitatively assessed.

Effect of the architectonics of the artificial substrates (collectors) on the population parameters of the cultivated mussels has been studied. Close relation between biological parameters and configuration of the collectors, which can be appropriately described by the power functions, has been demonstrated. Provision is proved, that changing in the artificial substrates architectonics enables effective management of some parameters of the population structure and production process of the mussels, cultivated on them.
Ways and Mechanisms of Inorganic Carbon Utilization by Microalgae (Review of Literature)
50-69
10.1615/HydrobJ.v44.i4.60
The data from literature on problems of carbon utilization by algae are systematized. The ways and forms of inorganic carbon assimilation are considered from passive diffusion to active transport with participation of enzymatic systems. Conditions and factors influencing the synthesis and activity of enzymes in carbon metabolism of algae are analyzed. Physiological peculiarities of inorganic carbon assimilation and their practical significance are discussed.

Results of the study of the influence of oil products (petrol and diesel fuel) on the cultures of blue-green and green algae are given in the paper. The following indices were taken into account in performing investigations: dynamics of algae biomass (in terms of dry matter content) and the content of chlorophyll a and carotinoids. The response of algae to the influence of oil products depended on their concentration, on the type of oil products (petrol and diesel fuel), on the duration of exposure, and also on the individual sensitivity of algae to the influence of oil products.

Effect of the crude oil and diesel fuel in the concentration from 5 to 30 MPC (maximal permissible concentration) on the activity of transamination enzymes in gills, liver and muscles of carps (Cyprinus carpio) has been investigated. It was stated, that heightened concentration of the diesel fuel in water has more toxic effect on the fishes' vital activity, than the crude oil. Impact of the diesel fuel resulted in the phase change of transamination enzymes activity and increase of the protein decomposition intensity in fish.

On the basis of the long-term studies regularities of the heavy metals accumulation by different species of bottom invertebrates, inhabiting fresh water bodies with different level of pollution, have been studied. Species-“monitors” for assessing of the level of pollution by the heavy metals have been determined. Possibility of the comparative assessment of the water environment status according to the level of the heavy metals accumulation using organisms-“monitors” (biomonitoring) have been critically considered.
