A total of 171 algae species was found in plankton of slightly mineralized oligotrophic water bodies of the Molodo river basin located in the region of diamonds mining. From the floristic and ecogeographic aspects, phytoplankton of these water bodies possesses typical characteristics of algae communities of the northern undisturbed water bodies. On the whole, phytoplankton of the Molodo river basin is characterized by rather low quantitative indices of its development, which is conditioned by a short vegetation period and by low water salinity. The material obtained at the initial stage of industrial development of the territory can be used as the basis for biomonitoring.

The communities of periphyton algae belonging to 11 groups were revealed in the Kanev reservoir as a result of long-term investigations. It has been found that the formation of phytoperiphyton communities depends to a large extent on the motion of the water conditioned by both natural and anthropic factors. In the splashover zone and at the water edge, phytoperiphyton communities were characterized by a predominance of algae species tolerant to dehydration belonging mainly to Cyanophyta. In this case, algae communities with a predominance of Chlorophyta occurred only under the water edge.

In natural water bodies, polyphenols dissolved in the water are represented mainly by their oxidized and reduced forms. The highest intensity of oxidation of polyphenols to quinones is observed in alkaline environment. Reduction of the oxidized polyphenols is registered in acidic environment. Mainly quinones rather than polyphenols are capable of inhibiting the functional activity of algae. The degree of biological activity of these compounds in relation to algae is determined by their oxidation-reduction properties.

Changes of the content of ammonia, total nitrogen and protein in organs and tissues of carp under the long-term impact of the heightened concentration of the allochthonous nitrogen have been investigated. It was stated that in the organisms of fish occur active processes directed to the fixation and excretion of the ammonia. It was marked that the most noticeable changes of physiological and biochemical parameters under the impact of mineral nitrogen occur in the blood plasma.

Biomarkers of the oxidative stress in the digestive gland and gills of the bivalve mollusk Colletopterum piscinale from the pond situated within the agricultural area (A) after the 14-days transplantation into the laboratory aquarium (L) or into the pond situated within the urbanized area (U) in summer and autumn have been compared. According to the Mn- and Cu, Zn-super dismutases’ activity, reduced glutathione content, lipid peroxidation rate and protein oxidative modifications rate, Index of oxidative stress calculation and data of the dispersion ANOVA/MANOVA analysis, depression of the anti oxidative protection was observed in the mollusks from the agricultural area in comparison with transplanted specimens. Particularly this was observed in summer, on the background of the water body chemical pollution. In the mollusks transplanted into the pond rate of the lipids and proteins oxidative destruction and metallothioneins content in the digestive gland was higher than those in the laboratory group. Positive correlation between iron content and protein oxidative modification in the gills, as well as between manganese content and system of the anti oxidative protection activity in the digestive gland has been stated. Most studied parameters had seasonal changes similar for the different mollusks' tissues and groups.
Peculiarities of Seasonal Dynamics of Manganese, Cobalt and Chromium Accumulation by the Mollusks Dreissena bugensis (Andr.) nearby City of Kyiv
63-72
10.1615/HydrobJ.v44.i5.70
Seasonal dynamics of the manganese, cobalt and chromium content in the soft tissues and shells of zebra mussel Dreissena bugensis from the Dnieper River nearby the River terminal (Kyiv city center) have been investigated. Considerable fluctuations of the soft tissues chemical composition connected with reproductive cycle have been demonstrated. Such seasonal fluctuations of the heavy metals content should be taken into account in the comparative assessment of the results obtained in different seasons. Shells' chemical composition to a great extent depends on the surface deposition on the periostracum. Lack of the noticeable in-year fluctuations of these metals content in zebra mussel shells with periostracum, and manganese and chromium content in the shells without periostracum was noted. This enables their application for the pollution monitoring during all the year.

Changes of the hematological parameters of the underyearling carps under the herbicide load have been studied. Availability of the urgent and long-term stages of the adaptation to the "roundup" herbicide has been shown. This fact is explained by the chemical nature of the herbicide — water-soluble N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine.

Influence of the oil products on the numerical density, biomass and calorie content of the hydrobionts was studied in the microcosm models. Toxic effect of the oil products appear as numerical density, biomass and calorie content reducing within the polluted sections in comparison with control. Presence of the oil products in the microcosms leads to the disturbing of the balance and functioning of the ecosystems as a result of hydrobionts' numerical density, biomass and calorie content reducing.

Results of the study of dynamics of the content and distribution of 90Sr, 137Cs, and also of transuranium elements, in fishes of the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl NPS are analyzed. The capacity of the absorbed dose from the incorporated radionuclides in phytophilous and predatory species of fishes was estimated. It has been found that in fishes of lake ecosystems of the left bank floodplain of the Pripyat river the specific activity of 90Sr increased. It is likely that this phenomenon was conditioned by dynamics of physical and chemical forms of this radionuclide in the soil, and also by its influx into the water bodies from the catchment area. At present about 90% of the capacity of the inner dose of irradiation of fishes of the closed water bodies of the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl NPS is conditioned by the incorporation of 90Sr.
