The paper deals with issues of implementation of the EU environmental Directives in Ukraine. The urgent tasks for the successful implementation of six directives of the water sector, particularly development of the River basin management plans are outlined. Specific feature of the water resources in Ukraine consists in existence of big plain reservoirs.

methods of water "bloom" control
The paper deals with the issues of the water "blooms" owing to mass development of Cyanoprokaryota, particularly in Ukraine. The reasons, dynamics, consequences of water "blooms", and factors influencing their development are discussed and analyzed. It is supposed that intensification of anthropogenic load and climate warming will result in the increase of intensity and frequency of the water blooms. Some biotechnological and physico-chemical approaches to the inhibition of the water "blooms" and its adverse effect, and also to the improvement of the water bodies state, including biological rehabilitation, algological and toxicological monitoring, are discussed.

On the basis of space images, the retrospective analysis of the changes of water areas of the Kilia delta of the Danube River water bodies was carried out. It was shown that over the last 30 years (1985-2015) the degree of delta overgrowth, the area of lagoons and watercourses, especially of the Ochakiv arm system, decreased. At the same time, areas of the intra-delta lakes, reed-bed vegetation and vegetation with floating leaves increased.

anthropogenic transformation
The species composition of higher aquatic plants in water bodies of the Obolon residential area of Kiev was studied for 25 years (in 1990-2015). The species composition of macrophytes of urban water bodies proved to be closely similar to that in the middle reaches of the Dnieper River. On the example of macrophytes of the Redkino and Verbnoye lakes, it has been shown that anthropogenic transformation manifests itself in the decrease in the number of species and in the decrease in their cenotic activity, in changes in relationship between species of various ecological groups, in the formation of polydominant communities, and in a predominance of euryvalent species.

Results of the use of macroinvertebrates in biological indication of water quality in the hydroecosystems of various types were analyzed on the basis of material of comprehensive studies on macrozoobenthos, hydrochemical characteristics of the reservoirs of the Dnieper cascade, and literature data. It has been shown that in water bodies with low water exchange macrozoobenthos communities are indicators of saprobity in the near-bottom layers of water, rather than in water column. Macrozoobenthos communities occurring on bottom sediments with a low content of organic matter (pebble, sands, and slightly silted sands) and zooperiphyton of artificial substrates should be used for biological indication of contaminated waters, in particular of those contaminated by organic matter.

The regularities of changes in growth parameters and in the activity of nitrogen metabolism enzymes, including glutamate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase, were investigated in some species of Cyanoprokaryota (Anabaena cylindrica and Phormidium autumnale f. uncinata), Chlorophyta (Scenedesmus obtusus and Desmodesmus communis), and Euglenophyta (Euglena gracilis) under the influence of high concentrations of ammonium (100 and 200 mg/L). The most significant changes in the above-mentioned indices were observed in Anabaena cylindrica, whereas the minimal ones - in Euglena gracilis. The obtained data suggest that the representative of Euglenophyta is most tolerant to excessive amount of ammonium in the aquatic environment compared to the other studied algal species.

The peculiarities of the biochemical status of the freshwater mollusk Anodonta cygnea (Bivalvia) at high water temperature and at a high content of sodium ions were investigated. Under the influence of these factors, the content of glycogen and the total content of protein decreased, whereas the content of lipids in the gill tissue of the mollusk increased. The increase in the activity of the enzymes lactate dehydrogenase and succinate dehydrogenase is indicative of the increase in the activity of energetic processes in the gills. Relationship was established between the activity of atpase in the gill tissue of A. cygnea and water temperature and the concentration of sodium ions in the aquatic environment.

The investigation of symbiotic communities of the introduced Far-East fishes (topmouth gudgeon, grass carp, bighead carp, silver carp) under joint cultivation with other species (common carp) showed presence of 29 symbiont species (including parasites). More than 60% of the symbionts were those with wide hostal specificity - generalist species. The differences in dimensional-mass, immunological and biochemical characteristics of the host fishes depending on the qualitative and quantitative composition of their symbiotic communities were established.
