priorities of aquatic radioecology
The first experimental studies on the impact of the Ro-rays, γ-irradiation and other sources of the ionizing irradiation on the living organisms of different taxa, carried out in late XIX - early XX cent., served as a basis for arising of the radiation biology - radiobiology, the fundamental study, which deals with effects of all kinds of the ionizing irradiation on the biological systems of different levels of structural and functional organization, from molecules and intracellular structures to communities and ecosystems. Radioecology of the fresh waters as scientific field was developed on the basis of the experimental investigations of the ionizing irradiation on the aquatic organisms and activity and behavior of the artificial radionuclides, which enter the hydrosphere owing to the nuclear weapon tests and development of the nuclear energetics. The scientific and technical progress to the great extent is provided by the nuclear technologies, which are widely used in the energetics, military industry, medicine and various fields of researches. Among the priority tasks of the aquatic radioecology are processes of the natural and technogeneous radionuclides' distribution and migration in the biotic and abiotic components of the aquatic ecosystems, forming of the ionizing irradiation doses in the ecological niches, radio-effects in the biological systems of different structural and functional levels, control of radiation risks in the vital activity of the living world.

Data on the species composition and seasonal dynamics of epiphytic diatom assemblages in six hydrogenic lakes located within the territory of Kiev are given for the first time. The influence of anthropogenic load on diatom assemblages is discussed in the paper. Rare and 17 species new to the flora of Ukraine were found in epiphyton of the studied lakes. With the purpose of these species conservation, some lakes should be transformed into reserves.

The benthic fauna of Lake Gaytan was analyzed on the basis of original and retrospective data obtained in the 1930s. Characteristics of the modern state of macrozoobenthos in different sections of the lake are also given in the paper. Ecological assessment of water quality in the lake was carried out using modern methods applied in the international practice. Modern etalon norms of water quality in the lake were established.

the Pripyat River basin
Based on literature (1887-2018) and original data, 488 species of zooplankton were found in water bodies and watercourses of the Pripyat River basin. They included 317 species of Rotifera, 100 species of Cladocera, and 71 species of Copepoda. The largest number of species (65% of their total number) was registered in the Pripyat River. The major portion of species observed in the basin of the river is characterized by a wide area of their distribution. At the same time, rare species and those occurring in swamps were also found. Zooplankton composition and structure in water bodies of the Pripyat basin significantly varied from year to year. In different years, zooplankton formation was influenced by melioration, economic activities within catchment area, and climate changes. Only 40% of the total number of species was registered during the whole period of investigations.

Quantitative composition of phenolcarbonic acids in phytomass of the submerged aquatic plants Ceratophyllum demersum L., Potamogeton perfoliatus L. and Myriophyllum spicatum L. was studied. RDA analysis revealed three groups of phenolcarbonic acids according to their effect on phyto-epiphyton development. Among the epiphytic algae the most clear relation with phenolcarbonic acids' content demonstrated Melosira varians Agardh, Cocconeis placentula Ehrenb., Oedogonium sp. st. and Cymbella tumida (Bréb. ex Kütz.) The fatty acid composition of lipids of sterlet Acipenser ruthenus L. white muscles in control and under hyperoxy-hypercapnic medium was studied. Redistribution of the individual fatty acids towards increase of the unsaturation degree was shown. The increase of the content of metabolically active fatty acids of the families ω3 is aimed at the maintaining of the ω3/ω6 ratio. The revealed modifications in the content of fatty acids of the sterlet white muscles are of adaptive importance in the hypometabolic state of fishes under the hyperoxy-hypercapnic conditions

species richness
Peculiarities of forming of the symbiocenoses' structure at the level of the aquatic organisms-hosts' populations were considered by example of the symbiotic communities of the freshwater mollusks, planktonic crustaceans and fishes. It was stated that species richness of the aquatic organisms' symbiocenoses at the populational level depends on dynamics of the symbiocenoses species composition at the level of individual specimens of hosts (the organism level) − symbionts of different species and taxonomic groups with certain values of infestation intensity or carriage. Dynamic temporal changes in the symbiotic communities' structure depend on both biology of the interacting biotic elements (aquatic organisms and their symbionts of different species), and on environmental factors' effect as well.

Results of the study of the role of suspended matter and its individual fractions differing in the size of their particles in the processes of accumulation and migration of metals (Al, Fe, Mn, Cr, Cu, and Mo) in lake ecosystems (on the example of Lake Nizhniy Telbin and Lake Verbnoye, Kiev) are given in the paper. It has been shown that in both lakes Al, Fe, Mn, and Cr migrate mainly in the suspended state. The mass contribution of the suspended form of each of the above-mentioned metals was as follows: in the water of Lake Nizhniy Telbin -77.7-86.6, 82.4-96.6, 45.6-56.9, and 29.9-74%, whereas in the water of Lake Verbnoye - 43.8-68.4, 46.4-92.2, 30.5-70.4, and 0.7-93.4% of their total content in the water. At the same time, Cu and Mo were found mainly in the dissolved state: 66.6-74.9% Cutotal and 63.9-77.8% Mototal in the water of Lake Nizhniy Telbin and 81.9-84.4% Cutotal and 56.6-66.7% Mototal in the water of Lake Verbnoye. Data on the content of the studied metals in the composition of suspended matter fractions differing in the size of their particles (> 0.85 μ;m, > 0.40-0.85 μ;m, and > 0.23-0.40 μ;m) are also given in the paper. The contribution of metals in the composition of suspended matter fractions significantly increased with decreasing the size of the particles (in calculating in mg/g of suspended matter dry mass). A decrease in pH value to 4.0 resulted in the decrease in the contribution of the desorbed form of metals in the following order: Cr > Mn > Al > Fe, Cu regardless of the origin of suspended matter.
