surface resistance
Q-factor
A new approach to measurement of the surface resistance Rs of large conductive samples is investigated. The technique for determining Rs with the use of an open annular quasi-optical dielectric resonator in which whispering gallery modes are excited, is presented. The basic characteristics of the cavity resonator have been investigated both theoretically and experimentally within the frequency range from 30 to 40 GHz. The possibility to apply an annular dielectric resonator for measurement Rs of high-temperature superconductors is demonstrated.

The possibility for complex function recovery from the modulus of its Fourier-transform is discussed. It is shown that by means of computer simulation it is possible to reconstruct the complex function to a constant phase factor. This can be arranged by using the iterative reconstruction procedure similar to the previously developed real image recovery. It is confirmed that in the general case the possibility of obtaining correct result is much less compared to real image reconstruction. Some practically justified additional conditions must be used to increase the possibility of correct reconstruction substantially.

A comparative analysis of frequency properties of a locked-in active oscillator has been made from one or two control inputs, one of which affording automatic oscillating frequency tuning. It is shown analytically that the key advantages of the oscillator already examined when it is used as a Doppler filter. A follow-up Doppler can be implemented whose function circuit differs from the circuit arrangement of automatic frequency or phasecontrol.

The paper presents the results of fitting the model to be applied for estimations of the retransmission meter signal + noise sum amplitude operating at the fluctuating reflector, the elements of which are distributed in the limited volume. The estimates of discrepancy between the results of statistical tests and theoretical calculations by the empirical model are obtained. The nodal values of the Weibull distribution parameters enabling to determine concrete amplitude statistics for the given signal-noise ratios are determined.

lasing spectrum
Numerical calculations on the formation of spectral-energy characteristics of the radiation from multipass amplifiers (MPA) of fleshlamp-pumped dye lasers are carried out. Analysis of experimental results has shown that at the MPA output, besides the amplified monochromatic radiation, one can observe a broadband radiation with the energy depending on the injected signal power. The calculated minimum level of the injected power providing the background radiation elimination within the limits of a sufficiently broad tuning band in the system (AX−17 nm) was of about 10 kW that coincides with the known experimental results.

The method of obtaining wave beams of a uniform intensity profile in the waveguide metal rectangular resonator is described. It is based on the self-imaging properties of multimode rectangular waveguide and using a heterogeneous mirror with the discretely distributed absorbing or scattering sections. The theoretical model and calculation algorithm of characteristics of the low-loss Fourier-mode with uniform intensity distribution at the output mirror of the WQR are developed with application of the eigen modes and the Fourier-optics methods. The conditions of Fourier-mode existence are established by changing the resonator geometry and its heterogeneous mirror parameters.

pulse shape
In terahertz HCN lasers, with pumping by alternating current with frequency 50 Hz, laser radiation is generated as pulses with repetition frequency of 100 Hz. A radiation pulse shape changes depending on variation of the resonator length within the oscillation zone. Each pulse of laser radiation can be transformed in two separate pulses. Thus, frequency of pulses is, doubled. The explanation of this phenomenon is provided in the paper.

Wavelength and power characteristics of impact periodic two-stage laser composed of exciter and multipass amplifier are investigated. The conditions for suppressing broadband background and increasing of the power transformation efficiency into a narrow injected line are defined. The obtained experimental results match well with theoretical findings. It is developed a high-power narrowband tunable impact-periodic dye laser with lamp pumping providing for average oscillation power of more than 4 W at the line width of 0.1 nm and overlapping the spectral range 460 to 680 nm.

A method for direct solution of the problem on determination of optimal control parameters of a voice information compression system in the process of its development is discussed. It is proposed to use a method of measuring the cepstral distance between the original voice signals and voice signals transformed by the compression system for a rapid speech quality evaluation. A general functional layout of the device for a rapid objective speech quality evaluation by the method of cepstral distance measurement is described.
