ABSTRACT

Safety of driver and passengers is the main motto of the Intelligent Transportation System. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to upgrade the entire transport infrastructure including the vehicles. At the same time, the engineers must keep the cost of the upgraded facility in consideration such that it could be affordable to the common people. To get aligned with the aforesaid motto, the design and testing of a low-cost wireless data acquisition system, to complement Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems, is taken as the primary objective of this work. The implementation of Wireless Data Acquisition system using XBee module and Arduino-Uno module is presented in this paper. The control program is developed using embedded C programming. Two ultrasonic sensors used to acquire position data and the XBee module are used to transmit the data to the user computer. The Arduino-Uno module is configured to control the complete setup and to acquire the sensed data from different subsystems of a vehicle. The developed module has been tested with a field trial.
