ABSTRACT
Alfred Nobel was an inventor in many different fields who possessed a rare creative power. His scientific contributions were above all others in the explosives area with epoch-making results also of technical and economic importance: the introduction of high explosives, invention of the detonator, dynamite, blasting gelatin, gelatinous explosives, double base propellant, and progressive powder.
