ABSTRACT

The structure and production potential of phytoplankton were studied in two large lakes of Asia, including the Baikal and Khanka lakes differing in their hydrological conditions. It has been found that the studied algae flora is saturated. The environmental conditions in the lakes are rather favorable to the development of algae. The functional characteristics of phytoplankton depended mainly on the regime of illumination, dimensional composition of algae, intensity of their development, vegetation stage, and also on the peculiarities of dominant forms biology.
