Seasonal Dynamics of Manganese Accumulation in Annual Shell Increments of the Mollusk Unio tumidus (Bivalvia: Unionidae)


The Mn uptake by the shell of Unio tumidus demonstrated clear seasonal dynamics with maximal accumulation in summer and the least − in winter. The increase of accumulation rate of this element in summer is related to the increased concentration of suspended planktonogenic forms of Mn in the river water.
