ABSTRACT
Paper deals with results of studies (2004-2006) of the natural viral community of the oligotrophic Lake Baikal. Peculiarities of morphology and dimensional structure of 2000 free viral particles have been revealed. It was found that most part of phages (76%) belong to the order Caudovirales (tailed phages). High structural diversity of the phages of the families Siphoviridae and Myoviridae was noted, mainly in fine details of the tail section structure.
