Distribution and Peculiarities of Biology of the Pumpkinseed Lepomis gibbosus (Perciformes: Centrarchidae) in the Water Bodies of Kyiv City

ABSTRACT

In the water bodies of Kyiv city high density of the invasive fish species Lepomis gibbosus (Linnaeus) was registered. The fish is characterized by high ecological flexibility, serve as a trophic competitor and thus can threaten aboriginal fishes. By totality of morphological features pumpkinseed from the water bodies of Kyiv occupies a detached position and is characterized by significant variability, high growth rate, high fatness and nutritional state, and earlier maturing.
