ABSTRACT

Effect of season and location of sampling of the freshwater bivalved mollusks Anodonta cygnea L. on the content and properties of metallothioneines in the gills has been investigated. Animals were sampled in spring, summer and autumn at two sites of the Gnyzna River: close to the autobus station (group A) and in the rural area (Group C), as well as after keeping in the laboratory during 21 day (group L). It was found that though content of the total zinc in the tissue was quite variable, content and ratio of zinc and copper in the metallothioneines, isomorphic composition and spectral peculiarities of the metallothioneines enabled to determine unfavorable effect of the environmental factors on the mollusks of the group A, especially in summer.
