For the first time a composition of the macro- and meiofauna of the specific biotope - algal balls was described for the Azov-Black Sea basin. The algal balls, collected in the Sivash Bay (the Sea of Azov) at the depth 0.5−1.5 in summer 2009, were formed mainly by fragments of the green alga of the genus Chaetomorpha (Ch. Aerea or Ch. Linum). Macrofauna comprised representatives of Coelenterata, Oligochaeta, Polychaeta, Crustacea, Gastropoda, meiofauna -Foraminifera, Kinorincha, Turbellaria, Nematoda, Harpacticoida, Ostracoda, Acarina (of eumeiobenthos), and Oligochaeta, Polychaeta, Amphipoda, Isopoda (of pseudomeiobenthos).
