AXIALLY SYMMETRIC VIBRATIONS OF A POROELASTIC COMPOSITE SOLID CYLINDER IN THE CONTEXT OF FRETTING FATIGUE

ABSTRACT

This paper deals with the plane strain vibrations of a composite poroelastic cylinder in the context of fretting fatigue. The frequency equations of nonaxially and axially symmetric vibrations, each for pervious and impervious surfaces are obtained in the framework of Biot’s theory of wave propagation in porous materials. In the case of axially symmetric vibrations, dilatational and shear modes are uncoupled, while in nonaxially symmetric vibrations, they are coupled. In the case of axially symmetric vibrations, the numerical results are presented by means of plots. Some results are compared with that of the rule of mixtures and then discussed.
