Modeling of Deformation and Breakup of Drops Moving in Liquid
ABSTRACT
The principles of forming a mathematical model of deformation and breakup of drops during their motion in liquid and gaseous media are considered. The model is based on the assumption that a drop retains the shape of ellipsoid of revolution in all stages of deformation. The model is shown to satisfactorily describe the drop deformation in motion under body forces, sudden acceleration, and deceleration of a fast-moving drop in a liquid or gas flow. The role of the main factors that determine the drop behavior is analyzed. The results of numerical calculation of the drop motion and deformation in liquid under various conditions are presented. The model equations can be used for the description of the motion and the deformation of gas bubbles in liquid.
