Film Condensation and Aerosol Deposition in Turbulent Flows with Noncondensable Gases

ABSTRACT

This paper presents a mathematical models for simulation of wall film condensation of vapor and deposition of aerosols in turbulent flows in the presence of non-condensable gases. The model is based on the numerical solution of the conservation equations for momentum and heat-mass transfer of a gas-vapor-aerosol mixture in turbulent flow, and conjugated with the characteristics of a liquid film on the interface in the framework of the wall functions method. New wall functions accounting for the convective Stefan's flux caused by condensation are proposed. The developed model is applied to computation of the film condensation and aerosol deposition phenomena in both vertical tubes and the containment of a nuclear power plant.
