Effect of Temperature Fluctuations on the Rate of Nucleation

ABSTRACT

On the basis of the theory of stochastic processes the effect of temperature fluctuations on the rate of homogeneous and heterogeneous nucleation on the surfaces of particles suspended in a turbulent flow is investigated. It is found that temperature fluctuations increase the effective rate of slow reactions with a characteristic time the much exceeds the time of temperatures correlation. For fast reactions where the characteristic time small compared to the time scale of temperature fluctuations decreasing of the reaction intensity is obtained. In the case of heterogeneous flows the particles temperature relaxation time plays a significant role on the intensity of nucleation.
