The Effect of Fouling on Enhanced Heat Transfer Equipment

ABSTRACT

Fouling is shown to have a significant effect on the performance of enhanced surfaces. Fouling is discussed as it occurs in single-phase flow in condensers and similar systems, pool boiling (precipitation fouling and refrigerant/oil mixtures), and flow boiling (magnetite deposits and refrigerant/oil mixtures). It is concluded that fouled enhanced tubes are still superior to fouled plain tubes.
