Experiments were conducted with JP-10 fuel using electrically heated tubes at relevant temperatures and flow rates for the application of interest. Three different coil pitches were considered and companion CFD calculations were performed to assess the flow fields qualitatively. Results indicate that the wire coils were very effective in augmenting heat transfer in this flow regime that straddles laminar/turbulent boundary layer characteristics. A Nusselt number correlation was developed for use in this application. |
