A VIDEO-BASED PIV SYSTEM WITH REDUCED TIME INTERVAL BETWEEN EXPOSURES

ABSTRACT

A PIV system is described in which the flow pattern is recorded with a single CCD camera with an electronic shutter. The recordings can be stored on video tape. The velocity distribution of bubbles and solid tracer particles suspended in water is determined by cross-correlating the video half-fields. The time interval between cross-correlated exposures is reduced to half of the video interval Before being evaluated, the odd and even video half-fields are supplemented to become full frames, which is advantageous for increasing the S/N ratio. The influence of the degree of overlapping of the correlated interrogation windows on the resulting vector plots is exemplified in the results.
