EXPERIMENTS ON RESONANCE FREQUENCIES OF SYNTHETIC JET ACTUATORS

ABSTRACT

This paper reports studies on the frequency behavior of synthetic jet actuators. Through experimental and theoretical investigations of different geometrical configurations, two resonant frequencies were revealed. The first resonant frequency resulted from the mechanical oscillations of the working fluid, and the second resulted from the Helmholtz resonator frequency. The effects of the actuator orifice length, cavity volume, and cavity shape on resonance frequencies were investigated.
