ATTENUATION OF CROSS FLOW-TYPE INSTABILITY IN A 3D BOUNDARY LAYER DUE TO VOLUMETRIC FORCE IMPACT

ABSTRACT

This paper demonstrates the numerical simulation of 3D compressible laminar boundary layer in the vicinity of a leading edge of a swept wing with an infinite span in the presence of spatial-periodic volumetric sources. The sources simulate the force and heat impact of plasma actuators operating on the basis of dielectric barrier discharge. The boundary layer stability with respect to cross flow-type disturbances at transonic free stream velocity is studied. This work demonstrates a possibility of a significant decrease of increments of spatial growth of stationary modes of disturbances due to the impact of volumetric sources.
