ABSTRACT

Numerical investigations were carried out of the two- and three-dimensional flow around a lifting surface with a symmetrical cross section and a deflected control surface with an overhang balance. The influence of several versions of the gap between the lifting and control surfaces on the aerodynamic characteristics was studied. Increased effectiveness and reduced hinge moment of the control surface were achieved by the proper choice of the gap parameters and shape.
