EMISSIONS AND RADIATION EFFICIENCY FOR METHANE COMBUSTION WITHIN A POROUS CERAMIC BURNER
ABSTRACT
The experimental results of premixed methane-air combustion within two different porosity-reticulated porous ceramic inserts are presented. The burner's radiant output and emissions of CO and NOx were measured under various equivalence ratios and flame speeds. The results indicated that CO and NOx emissions increased with flame speeds. The radiation efficiency decreased with flame speeds at a lower equivalence ratio. At a higher equivalence ratio the radiation efficiency of the ceramic burner is relatively constant. The burner has high radiation efficiency and as low CO and NOx emissions as other commercial ceramic fibrous burners, but it operates at a much higher combustion temperature.
