Protective Effect of Water-Soluble Pristine C60 Fullerene in Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury of Skeletal Muscle

ABSTRACT

The effect of pristine C60 fullerene aqueous colloid solution (C60FAS) (1 mg/kg) on ischemic damage to the rat muscle soleus was studied. The therapeutic effect of C60FAS was analyzed under its intravenous and intramuscular injection. An evident C60FAS protective effect on the dynamics of ischemic damage to the muscle contraction has been revealed. In particular, it was found that in most cases the protective effect of C60FAS with intramuscular administration was by 15 − 17% more effective than intravenous administration of that agent. This fact indicates that C60FAS can be considered a promising therapeutic agent to prevent and correct ischemic damage of the skeletal muscle contractile activity.
