Effects of Upper Plenum on the Critical Heat Flux of Downward Flow

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this experimental work is to investigate the effects of upper plenum on the critical heat flux for downward flow. The experiments were carried out with a circular tube test section in a water test loop at low flow rate (0−200 kg/(m2·s)) and low pressure (1.0−7.0 bar) conditions. The upper plenum had a volume of about 1 liter. The effects of upper plenum on the downflow CHF were found to have a strong connection with the remained gas in the upper plenum and the system pressure.
