ABSTRACT
Gradations of values of phytoplankton numbers, biomass and primary production corresponding to 5 classes (9 categories) of water quality with regard to trophic levels and saprobic zones are presented. On the example of lakes with different trophic levels, indicative significance of those indices is discussed. Their application in evaluating aquatic ecosystem status and water quality is described.
