ABSTRACT
A brief overview of literature data on modem approaches to solving problems of taxonomy of blue-green algae is presented. The complex approach, based on both traditional result and the newest methods of study (mostly applied to material collected in the field), is recognized as the most progressive. Any changes to traditional classification schemes of the Cyanophyta should be preceded by an in-depth analysis of general theoretic and methodological provisions of the modern taxonomy of living organisms as applied to prokaryotic algae, as well as by accumulation of a large amount of data on infraspecific variability of characters selected as diagnostic ones.
