The dynamic boundary-value problem in the plane-strain formulation is solved numerically by the finite-difference method. In the calculations the microstructure of the composite is specified explicitly. It is found that macroscopic strength of the composite increases exponentially with the strain rate in compression, and changes but only slightly in tension. It is shown that the higher the strain rate, the less intensive is the coating fracture in compression, and the more intensive is the coating fracture in tension. %8 2011-12-20
