AB Two Ganoderma species (G. lucidum and G. lipsiense, Ganodermatales) are regarded as popular remedies in Chinese and Japanese traditional medicine and their effectiveness seems to be reasonably acceptable. The cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus assay performed in vitro on human lymphocytes for several concentrations of crude extracts shows that these two mushroom species do not exhibit genotoxic properties (clastogenicity and/or aneugenicity). Moreover, no cytotoxic effect was detected at any dose.
