AB The production properties of the Black Sea red alga Gracilaria verrucosa (Huds.) Papenf. cultivated in batch and continuous cultivation under ambient temperatures of 18; 23; 27 °C with a light intensity of 30 and 40 W/m2 are investigated. It is established that the ambient temperature determines the intensity of adaptive rearrangements in talli of macrophytes. The ambient temperature of 23 °C is shown to be optimal according to the productivity criterion of thalli. The growth of G. verrucosa also depends on the level of illumination. Therefore, at the ambient temperature of 27 °C the stable growth of C. verrucosa is observed at the light intensity of 40 W/m2. It is found that the batch or continuous cultivation had no direct influence on the production properties of the alga. However, in batch cultivation less intensive appearances of epiphytes were revealed. Maximal values of production (121.4 g of fresh biomass from m2 per a day) and specific growth rates (0.13 day−1) of G. verrucosa are obtained under continuous cultivation at the ambient temperature of 23 °C and light intensity of 40 W/m2.
