It is shown that 20 to 50% of the observed combustion rate is contributed by attrition depending on whethere, or not, CO escapes from the boundary layre of burns in it. The combustion rate is conrolled by por diffusion and chemical reaction. In terms of the overall kinetics, the combustion rate is controlled by the rates of both reaction and diffusion through the boundary layer. %8 2003-04-01
