METHOD FOR OPTIMAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT OF TRANSPORT SOFTWARE-DEFINED NETWORKS

Transport software-defined networks (SDN) are the result of conversion of the concept of the centralized software-implemented optimal control, based on virtualization of physical resources, to transport and reconfigurable optical packet networks. The paper proposes a mathematical model of the transport SDN, offering simultaneous solution, first, of the problem of optimal dynamic formation of a pool of virtual resources by creating a set of virtual transmission paths (light paths at the level of the optic infrastructure), having a given bandwidth; second, the problem of optimal allocation of these virtual resources at the IP-level between the incoming network requests. To obtain numerical solutions the decomposition algorithm is proposed, assuming a sequential but consistent solution of the problems of physical and virtual resources management. The minimum total network power consumption is chosen as a decision-making criterion. It is shown that the structure of the virtual transmission paths is determined by the structure of the accepted flows, and not always the establishment of a direct light path (bypassing the router) is an appropriate one. It is shown that the employment of the multipath routing at the IP level allows reducing the number of the used optical carriers and, as a consequence, the total power consumption of the network.
