Some Properties of Open-Resonator Laser Systems

A number of papers is known that deal with studies of the radiation of lasers with long resonator. In these papers, an increase in resonator length was achieved by introducing an optical delay line into the resonator [1] or by separating resonator mirrors by several hundred meters [2]. Moreover, the temporal characteristics of radiation were studied without taking account of the phase distortions produced by the inhomogeneities of the laser operating element and of the near-earth atmosphere layer in the space between the resonator mirrors. Studies (mainly theoretical) of the properties of laser systems with radiation wave front-reversing mirrors and designed to compensate phase distortions in the resonator were also performed [3].
In this paper, we describe the results of the studies of open-resonator laser systems [4] one of whose mirrors reverses the wave front of laser radiation and for the other mirror we can take various objects that exist under real atmospheric conditions and can be displaced within the laser radiation propagation solid angle limited by the geometric dimensions of the operating element of the laser system.
